Author: S Venkatesan Born in 1970, S. Venkatesan hails from Harveypatti, Madurai. Venkatesan developed a keen interest in literature even as a boy. He did his schooling in Madurai Thirunagar M.M. Higher Secondary School and graduated from Madurai Mannar College. Venkatesan won the Sahitya Akademi award (2011) for Kaval Kottam - first writer in any Indian language to win it for a debut novel. His first collection of poems was published when Venkatesan had barely completed his schooling. Till date, he has published four poetry collections, three research works and six booklets. Kaval Kottam – the result of his ten-year labour – counts among the modern classics in Tamil. Currently, Venkatesan is the general secretary of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association. Poet, novelist and activist, Venkatesan has expanded his horizon with this foray into the world of the graphic novel with Chandrahasam. Venkatesan lives in Madurai with his wife, P R Kamala and two daughters, Yazhini and Thamizhini. Artist: K Balashanmugam Balashanmugam hails from Sendangadu village near Pattukottai, Thanjavur district. His parents are Kannaiyan Gopalan and Aayiraasu. Balashanmugam is married to P Thamizhselvi and the couple has a daughter, Rupashri. Balashanmugam’s first brush with art was through his brother Rajasekhar who painted advertisement hoardings. After completing his schooling, in1999, Balashanmugam enrolled himself in Kumbakonam Fine Arts College despite stiff opposition from his family. After graduating in fine arts, he joined the project team of Professor S. Balusamy and documented the murals of the Naicker-period. Balashanmugam acknowledges his professor Sivaramakrishnan for his interest in pre-colonial Tamil art. Later he completed his post- graduation in Fine Arts at [WHERE]. After his move to Coimbatore, Balashanmugam became acquainted with modern techniques, an influence that redefined his quest for art. Chandrahasam is an outcome of this quest..
